We are thrilled to be the Maryland home of the New York-based Actor’s Garage! This exciting new program is the perfect complement to our musical offerings. After all, studying a musical score and working on a character from a script or screenplay are very similar processes.
The Actor’s Garage, based in New York, is a powerful means to free children’s imaginations, explore in depth the fascinating actor’s craft, build confidence and self-esteem and have tons of fun in the process! For more information you can visit the Actor’s Garage main website or, if you would like to speak with a live person about details of the program, please call (240) 672-2097.
(Note! While everyone is welcome to join these classes, students also enrolled or enrolling in Academy private lessons, group or early childhood classes receive an automatic 10% discount.)
Class Descriptions
Mini Movie Stars! (ages 2 and 3 with parent)
and Young Tweens! (ages 4 and 5 without parent)
Fun filled classes designed to involve children in basic improvisation
games, storytelling, activities geared toward listening, taking
direction and being comfortable on stage and in front of the
camera. These classes help young children (even two year olds!)
free up their natural creativity and accustom them to working and
sharing in a group environment.
Tweens! (ages 6-9 without parent)
and Teens! (ages 10-17 without parent)
These classes focus on techniques that enable young actors to develop spontaneity and skill as they ignite their imaginations and gain confidence in their audition and performance abilities. Students work on basic acting exercises and improvisation to build a solid acting foundation to prepare them for scene work and auditions. The objective is to develop acting technique that creates complete believability and truth in role playing.
