Early Childhood Music
The Academy's Early Childhood Music Program takes advantage of this extraordinary period in children's learning development to raise not just awareness and skills, but actual aptitude in musical I.Q. In the last twenty-five years, science has shown convincing evidence of the benefits of starting children in music instruction at an early age. Benefits are not just musical. Studies show a direct correlation between guided music instruction and abilities in math, language and spatial reasoning.
Early Childhood Music fosters creativity, social development and an understanding of musical concepts in a fun, nurturing environment. The Academy's age-specific programs provide the opportunity for joyful interaction among parent, teacher and child. The classes emphasize development of vocal skills, fine and large motor coordination, focused listening and instrument playing — all critical to the development of the whole child and laying the foundation for later, formal music instruction.

Private Instruction
In Private Instruction with an experienced and professional musician/performer/teacher, students learn to master the instrument they have chosen and to communicate musical purpose and meaning through that instrument. With Academy teacher's skills and dedication combined with equal commitment on the part of students and supportive family, progress is rapid. Students experience the excitement and satisfaction that comes with full understanding and performance of great works of music.
Daily practice is expected of all Academy private students. In addition, individual teachers may have their own specific requirements regarding length of practice time, listening requirements, concert attendance, enrollment in Performance, and participation in recitals and/or competitions.
All private students age 8 and above are urged to take advantage of the Academy's outstanding Musicianship Classes.

Suzuki Violin
Founded by the legendary Japanese teacher Shinichi Suzuki, the Suzuki method of teaching is one that seeks to realize the fullest musical and personal potential of each child through the medium of a string instrument. At the heart of the Suzuki philosophy is the belief that children learn music in exactly the same manner in which they absorb language — through constant immersion and repetition in the home environment. Just as all children can learn to speak their native tongue, so too can all children become proficient in music. Daily listening to recordings, daily practicing, regular concert attendance, encouragement and love are required of student and parent.

Theory and Musicianship
Music Theory directly furthers a student's ability to understand and communicate full musical meaning in performance. Academy theory classes build student musicianship through understanding the language, or "grammar" of music. With sufficient theory background, students learn and memorize faster, more solidly and generally sight-read better than students without theory knowledge. To develop the ability to hear and manipulate sound mentally, vital for effective musical performance, ear-training is strongly emphasized in class. Well-developed theory skills also form the basis for student composition, jazz and other styles of improvisation.
