Early Childhood Music at The Academy of Fine Arts
The Academy's Early Childhood Music Program takes advantage of this extraordinary period in children's learning development to raise not just awareness and skills, but actual aptitude in musical I.Q. In the last twenty-five years, science has shown convincing evidence of the benefits of starting children in music instruction at an early age. Benefits are not just musical. Studies show a direct correlation between guided music instruction and abilities in math, language and spatial reasoning.
Early Childhood Music fosters creativity, social development and an understanding of musical concepts in a fun, nurturing environment. The Academy's age-specific programs provide the opportunity for joyful interaction among parent, teacher and child. The classes emphasize development of vocal skills, fine and large motor coordination, focused listening and instrument playing — all critical to the development of the whole child and laying the foundation for later, formal music instruction.
