Triple Threat Classes
Integrated Acting, Dancing, Singing
Sing, Dance, and Act in one integrated 2-hour class! Phil Hosford (nominee for Helen Hayes Award Best Lead Actor, and WATCH Awards for Best Director and Best Music Director) directs the class and teaches along with adjunct faculty and specialists. All performers take part equally in the final showcase.
Each discipline is dealt with separately as each new dance, song or scene is begun and then immediately integrated. Singing while dancing and doing both well is difficult! As is, transitioning from an acting scene into a song or dance. Learn how, practice and receive expert coaching in this fun, comprehensive class.
This is a "by audition" performance class. We are looking for kids who want to integrate the triple threat disciplines acting, dancing, and singing and who want to perform. For students not accepted this time, we will suggest you take individual discipline classes at the Academy to develop the requisite skills.
This class is NOT a substitute for our regular classes! This is a production class aiming toward performing a show. However, one sacrifice of doing a show is technical aspects in each discipline (act/dance/sing) are not dealt with as intensively. BEST is to take individual act/dance/sing classes at the Academy and supplement it with this Triple Threat Class.
Schedule: 16 weeks, beginning 9/16/18
12:00 - 2:00 pm: Ages 9 - 13,
2:00 - 4:00 pm: Ages 14 - 18.
Tuition: 4 payments of $188. The first is due with registration. Payments 2, 3 and 4 are by autopay on 10/1, 11/1 and 12/1/2018.
Ages Ranges: The age ranges listed in the schedule above are approximate. If an 8 year old is mature enough and does a good audition, they may be invited to join. 13 and 14 year olds may also be invited to join a younger or older group based on the audition and discussion with parents.
Performances: Mid January with specific date/time TBA. This will be unlike our regular sharings where students present as much material as possible, can repeat things and use the audience for practice. This will be a through-composed musical revue. Parents are encouraged to find other venues for the ensemble to travel to and perform.
Audition dates: Sunday, Sept. 9, 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, & Monday, Sept. 10, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at The Academy of Fine Arts, 8451 Helgerman Ct. Gaithersburg, MD
Audition requirements: Be prepared to sing a section of a song of your choice, learn a short dance routine at the audition and perform a 30" monologue if you have one. If you don't, we will do cold reads from scripts we will have available at the audition. To schedule an audition click the button below.
If invited to join: Congratulations! But, this is a responsibility. You will need to sign a contract saying you understand the basics of being in an ensemble which includes (but is not limited to), being on time for rehearsal/class, practicing consistently outside of class, and attending as near 100% of the classes as possible.
